Keela Simpson Advanced Jacket 2008

£33.00

A regular winner of Trail reviews of kids’ jackets, the Keela Simpson Advanced Jacket is still very hard to beat. It’s made from a good waterproof and breathable fabric with a mesh lining, so it should be comfy. The chest pocket and lower pockets are all zipped, with stormflaps to keep the rain out. The front zip gets a large, ...

Keela Quantum

£100.00

The waffle-patterned fleece lining felt comfy. The two-way stretch fabric felt light and didn’t restrict movement, but the cuffs were too tight to pull up. With waterproof fabric, taped seams and a hood, the Quantum is really weatherproof, but it loses out on breathability – the real calling card of soft shell – and wouldn’t work at all as a ...

Keela Genesis

£70.00

Extremely comfortable, a great cut and nice and snug at the neck. It also has a lovely, soft fleecy lining. Claims to be waterproof as well as windproof and certainly kept showers and cold winds at bay. Heavy, but not too hot or bulky. Small pockets, and fabric reinforcements on the shoulders/elbows crackled with movement.  VITAL STATSColours: Grey/black, black, moss ...

Keela Zeus Smock 2008

£60.00

The Keela Zeus Smock features Rainlife 2000 waterproof, breathable fabric; smock design; huge chest pocket; pit zips; good basic rollaway hood; reflective piping. But 546g (L) is quite heavy; hip pocket access is easily obscured by rucksack belts; higher price would bring more waterproof and more breathable fabric.

Keela Cumulus

£100.00

The soft fabric rustled a little but was easy to move in. No problem with fit – good length in the body and sleeves and plenty of adjustment. Hood quite small, though. Kept the rain out, but very sweaty, even with the venting pockets and pit zips wide open. Light and reasonably compact in a rucksack, though, and the chest ...

Keela Zenith/Zenita 2008

£80.00

This soft shell jacket  boasts waterproof fabric (but not taped seams); side vents; chest and hip pocket just about take an OS map. But 700g is relatively heavy; less stretchy than some; access to hip pockets is easily obscured by rucksack belts; no collar adjustment or hood to keep draughts out.

Keela Latitude

£110.00

This duvet jacket uses Primaloft insulation; fully waterproof shell; two chest pockets; internal map pocket; ideal for general and valley use in winter; rollaway hood; zipped side vents; rollaway hood. But 848g is relatively heavy (though it does have a hood); not as warm as some so best for spring or autumn rather than winter use.

Keela Cumulus

£100.00

Keela jackets feature a unique fabric system that keeps you drier than many conventional materials. The trick is the lining that wicks sweat away, while the outer keeps the rain off. This fabric combination can be a little heavy, but on this general-purpose jacket Keela has got it down to a respectable 600g. The jacket is quite long too, and ...

Keela Zenith

£80.00

This soft shell weighs 700g; waterproof fabric; side vents allow cooling; chest pocket just about takes an OS map as do hip pockets. But not as stretchy as some others; access to hip pockets is easily obscured by rucksack belts; no collar adjustment to keep draughts out.

Keela Zenith

£80.00

This shoft shell jacket from Keela has a good fit in the body and sleeves, but the collar, which is reasonably high, is too tight when fully fastened. The Lycra cuffs are good, and the inner is softer than most. Heavier and bulkier than the winner, the Zenith is another jacket that’s at its best in cooler weather. It’s well-featured ...

Keela Genesis

£61.00

This windproof fleece from Keela is a great fit – just the right length in the body with good long sleeves and elasticated cuffs. The high collar is good, and the chunky, cosy fabric has a lovely soft feel to it. Windproof and waterproof, it has Keela’s innovative and breathable Innovation X1 lining providing all the protection. It certainly keeps ...

Keela Lutian

£100.00

This soft shell jacket from Keela fits well in the body, but it’s hard to fasten the collar properly with the hood rolled away. The inner fabric is soft and comfortable, and the drawcord hem works well when needed. It’s impressive in really bad weather, with a small but useful hood and taped seams. However, despite having pit zips and ...
