Vaude Brenta 35 (2011)

£80.00

The adjustable back system has to be the biggest draw for this pack, being one of the simplest to adjust and allowing you to customise the fit. The real benefit comes from the ability to customise the amount of curve in the suspended mesh back system. Two small tabs are all it takes and so the pack can be adjusted ...

Vaude Farley III

£70.00

A classic pair of trousers built with an eye towards travelling, thanks to their built-in sun protection and mosquito repellent. There is no stretch in the fabric, although the cut is suitably generous to negate this. The fabric itself is fairly lightweight too, aiming them at the summer walker. They aren’t a true convertible trouser but you can roll the ...

Features are kept to a minimum, although it has got two walking pole attachments and a rain ...

Vaude Astra Light 60 2011

£140.00

The Vaude Astra Light 60 – a new, lightweight version of the classic Astra 65, a frequent winner of Trail tests – is the only pack here that uses a zip for main access. It also sports a versatile adjustable back system for comfort, which does, however, make it the heaviest on test. DesignThis and the Berghaus Torridon 65 are ...

Vaude Cyclone II

£90.00

A slightly thicker style of top that is great when the weather is a little cooler, the Cyclone II has a thick, fleecy lining that really helps to trap the warmth inside but does add to the weight and bulk of the top. Vaude’s Wind Proof 100 membrane keeps the breeze out and further adds to a toasty feeling. It ...

Vaude Triset 35+8

£65.00

A long, slim shape allows for great amounts of upper body movement. The Aeroflex mesh back system is airy and has a useful length adjustment. It’s a bit complicated to work out, but is excellent once you do, with a decent range of adjustment. The face fabric is rugged and hard-wearing, if heavier than some, but the lack of a ...

Vaude Triset 35+8 2010

£65.00

The Vaude Triset won ‘Best Value’ in the June 08 Trail test (it’s £10 more expensive now) and here it keeps its closest competitor – the Lowe Alpine AirZone – among the runners-up. If you’re looking for a pack with an airflow back system it would be worth checking out both of these models along with the Karrimor Airspace. This ...

This latest Triset incarnation features narrower shoulder straps and a web of shock cord on the front that’s ideal for carrying a wet waterproof. It’s a tall, slim pack, with excellent compression straps that will hold just about any size load securely. And as such it’s best-suited to more energetic walking or even scrambling. Vaude Spline 40 2010

£130.00

It would be easy to think that the standard rucksack design is the best design for the job. But it is possible to come up with a radical rethink of how a rucksack operates. And that is exactly what the designers of the Vaude Spline have done. This sack boasts a wealth of innovative design concepts. But do they work? ...

Vaude Farley Pants 2010

£65.00

Perfectly designed for walkers heading overseas, Vaude’s Farley Pants offer sun and mosquito protection and are fast-drying. Offering great comfort thanks to the soft Supplex material and elasticated hipbelt, these were one of my favourites in the test. These offer a 3/4 length option and plenty of secure pockets, and they are one of the most comfortable on test.

VAUDE TRISET 35+8

£60.00

Review: The concave back system is cool and reasonably stable. The straps aren’t as luxurious as some, but are still comfy even when carrying large loads. This is a huge pack with as much as 43 litres of storage when stuffed to the gunnels. It’s tall and slim but has no bottom or side access, so can be tricky to ...

Vaude Defender

£110.00

The attention to detail on Vaude’s newest mountaineering pant, the Defender, is almost NASA-esque. Using the latest laser-welded seam technology, they’ve created an ultra-stretchy, very light (403g), sleek, good-looking mountain trouser cut to fit women blessed with slimmish thighs. Four laser-welded pockets with easy-to-pull-with-winter-gloves-on zips (two mesh side, two mid-thigh) add to the streamlined look, articulated knee stretch panels allow ...

Vaude Slight 2008

£145.00

The Vaude Slight is an extremely lightweight jacket at just 242g (size L) and the weight saving primarily comes from the lack of features, while the very thin 3-layer fabric shaves more weight off. The fabric is a rated as extremely waterproof and breathable, so it should be as good as the best here in this respect, even though it ...

£100.00

This soft shell jacket  has huge chest pockets that can be accessed while wearing a rucksack; pocket across the back for biking; zipped wrist cuffs; front is 100% windproof, back is 80%. But 614g is heavy for what you get; no insulation; chest pockets extend to hem so items get trapped behind belts; weird mix of features.

Vaude Triset 35 + 8

£55.00

The Triset rucksack fitted well – with a very long back and lovely slim profile. It has modest padding, but is ample for its size. We found the Aeroflex concave back system cool and very stable. The tall, slim profile makes it best for rugged terrain or scrambling, but this, combined with its huge volume, makes it more fiddly to ...
