Regatta X-ert Mountain Gloves (2013)

£25.00

For the price tag of just £25 these gloves are quite well featured. They get a polyester shell with an Isotex waterproof lining and Thinsulate ThermoGuard insulation. They feel quite warm and certainly warmer than many gloves in their price range. The lining is quite loose though so when my hand was finding its way it side often a finger ...

Regatta Packaway II (2013)

£15.00

If your overtrousers are going to spend most of their life in your pack, or you’re really strapped for cash, then a basic pair is probably your best bet. The Regatta Packaway II packs down to the size of a Coke can and weighs only 164g (size men’s L). The design is simple, with an elasticated waist and a couple ...

Regatta Byrne (2012)

£30.00

Regatta Byrne overtrousers can be yours for just £30, and for that you get a waterproof and breathable garment made from Isotex 5000. There is no mesh lining so these are a little clammier than higher-priced options, but who cares when they spend most of their life in your rucksack? The cut is more basic than higher-priced options too, though, ...

Regatta Aventura (2012)

£18.00

Regatta is well-known for producing good kit at very affordable prices. The Aventura is priced very competitively, yet it still performs extremely well when hillwalking. This is a short-sleeved design with a crew neck and a light and airy fit, making it ideal for summer. The style is not too ‘mountain hero’ either so it could be worn casually without ...

Regatta Baxter (2012)

£30.00

This is a lighter-weight fleece than many out there, using a thinner grade of material that also makes it one of the least expensive too. The downside is a lack of insulation. This really only provides warmth as part of a layering system. It is designed to zip into a corresponding shell jacket. A drawcord around the hem helps to ...

Regatta Geo Extol II TRS

£46.00

These were quite a nice surprise – a pair of trousers with a technical climbing/walking look befitting of more expensive models. The off-coloured knee patches may not be to everybody’s taste, but they do add more movement to the legs, helping with bending and hill-climbs. They could do with being a little more reinforced however, as they do seem to ...

Regatta X-Cert Lightweight 20L

£30.00

It’s certainly stripped back, with no waist strap, and only a flimsy padded back system for strength and comfort. You have to be careful when loading it to keep soft kit towards your back and you can’t overfill it (which is all too easy to do) otherwise it will sit uncomfortably. There are a couple of mesh side pockets, normally ...

Regatta Magnitude III

£40.00

An inexpensive jacket, the Magnitude III is as classic an example of a cagoule as you’re likely to see. In use, perhaps not surprisingly, it’s not the most technical, although it is one of the few to come with a mesh-lined inner to help the outer fabric absorb condensed moisture. The face fabric is not that effective when it comes ...

Regatta Ad-Trek 2011

£40.00

A new sandal for this spring, the Regatta Ad-Trek is a very practical design coupled with some modern styling. So you get an upper that is water-resistant to ensure it is fast-drying. The straps are Velcro, making them quick and easy to use, and there are three adjustment points so a reasonable fit should be easily achieved. The straps are ...

Regatta Chandler II

£30.00

While waterproof trousers are notorious for a nuisance rustling noise as you walk, the Chandler II proved remarkably quiet. The softer face-fabric does mean that they are one of the easiest to snag on branches, but the pay-off is that it won’t sound like you’re wearing bin bags wrapped around your legs. They certainly aren’t easy to pull on over ...

Regatta Geo Extol 2011

£45.00

The Regatta Geo Extol mountain trousers weigh 472g (size men’s L); three leg lengths; women’s sizes from 8-20; four-way stretch soft shell fabric; very water-resistant; hard-wearing; zipped ankle opening for big boots; three zipped pockets. But cut is not as profiled as higher-priced options; more clammy than non-soft shell options; pockets are relatively small; others are more stretchy.

Regatta Geo Extol Zip-Off 2010

£30.00

At under half the price of some comparable trousers, the Regatta Geo Extol Zip-Off is clearly going to be a favourite in terms of cost. But this is more than a low-priced product, as it also has plenty of practical features that allow it to compete with the best here. The fabric is quick-drying nylon as with higher-priced trousers. The ...

Regatta Ad-Splorer 2010

£25.00

The Regatta Ad-Splorer is an extremely low-priced sandal, which is its main benefit. It is completely made from synthetic materials, which makes it ideal for use in wet conditions as it dries very fast. There are three Velcro straps, which allows good adjustment at the heel, ankle and forefoot. The heel strap can be removed to convert this to a ...

Regatta Chandler II 2010

£33.00

Performed well in keeping rain and wind out, although not as breathable as some. They have a comfy polyester lining and a useful selection of zip-access pockets, and the waist is adjustable and elasticated so it’s easy to get a good fit. The leg-zips are on the small side, but they do the job, and they come in three leg ...

Regatta Mantle

£48.00

The Mantle is quite a short jacket, yet it’s heavy and quite bulky too. This is mainly down to a mesh lining, which is comfortable but unnecessary in this type of jacket, and a stuff-sack pocket that comes with an elastic belt attached. It has a good selection of pockets (none that will take a map) but packaway hood is ...

Regatta Crusoe 2009

£25.00

The low price of the Regatta Crusoe is instantly appealing. And you get an awful lot of practical features for your cash. The Crusoe has a good three-point adjustment strap system, with Velcro and neoprene padding. The straps are wide at the forefoot, to provide extra protection. Underfoot there is a good, sturdy footbed that is stiff enough to take ...

Regatta Geo V Zip-Off Trouser

£30.00

Odd sizing makes these trousers quite big for the stated waist measurement, and the legs are incredibly baggy, too. The fabric feels good – albeit a bit on the lightweight side for year-round walking. The fact they are convertible makes them better for walking in milder conditions, although they do repel water well and dry quickly. There’s a good selection ...

REGATTA X-ERT PERFORMANCE BASE ZIP-NECK

£16.00

Review: The fabric is soft and has enough stretch to make movement easy. Lovely snug collar, too. As a base-layer it feels soft and warm and copes well with moisture, and it looked good on its own, too. Some odour retention, but not too bad. Regatta Mantle 2008

£40.00

The Regatta Mantle is a lightweight jacket that weighs just 478g (L); very low price; Isolite waterproof and breathable fabric; one chest pocket; two hip pockets; hood rolls into collar; packs into base pocket; mesh lining. But no pockets are map-sized; hip pocket access is easily obscured by rucksack belts; hood adjustment not as smooth as others; large, floppy hood ...

Regatta Epicentre

£45.00

A good fit in the body and sleeves, but the stiff-ish collar is a little too high, especially when unzipped. The cuffs are too tight to pull up, but a warm and very weatherproof jacket… at the expense of breathability, which is definitely noticeable when walking uphill at speed. Would like a bit more ‘give’ in the fabric, too.

Regatta Farley

£15.00

The zip-necked Farley is a good length, but the sleeves are too tight, with no give in the fabric. Good high, snug collar, though. Difficult to wear as a mid-layer as the sleeves are too tight to go over anything else. Good warmth as a base-layer, though, and it dried quickly when wet. A decent-length zip, too.Verdict A lightweight, budget-end ...

Regatta Oceanpoint

£20.00

The exceptional low price of this sandal is an obvious attraction, but it offers more than the price suggests. Firstly it has three-point adjustment and the straps have Velcro in place for easy adjustment. The straps are well-padded on the inside, making them very comfortable. Underfoot the footbed is well-cushioned too. We also like the protection the straps give to ...

Regatta Geo Mountain Pant

£30.00

These hill-walking trousers weigh just 328g; low price tag; 2-way stretch panels on knee and seat; elasticated waist with belt loops and fly; five pockets (three zipped); drawcord ankle cuff adjustment. But pockets are quite small, even when used as handwarmers; only knee and seat panels are stretch; fabric not as durable as some; no map-sized pockets.

These waterproof trousers from Regatta are a good fit, with a functional drawcord/elastic waist and an easily adjustable Velcro tab at the ankle. Regatta Odette II

£40.00
