Regatta Baxter (2012)

£30.00

This is a lighter-weight fleece than many out there, using a thinner grade of material that also makes it one of the least expensive too. The downside is a lack of insulation. This really only provides warmth as part of a layering system. It is designed to zip into a corresponding shell jacket. A drawcord around the hem helps to ...

Regatta Adventure Tech 35 (2011)

£50.00

A basic-looking pack with all the usual features you would hope to find on a 35-litre pack, but at a more reasonable price. You get a suspended mesh back system, hydration pack-compatibility, a rain cover and somewhere to store your poles. What does suffer, however, is a little reassurance in the quality stakes. The fabric used does feel noticeably thinner ...

Regatta Cordite 3-in-1

£170.00

Two jackets for the price of one with this – a shell jacket outer and a removable insulated liner. The removable liner makes it a good bet for casual walks on colder days, when you don’t want to be weighed down by a lot of kit. In use the jacket is fine for general walking use, albeit pretty warm when ...

Regatta Magnitude III

£40.00

An inexpensive jacket, the Magnitude III is as classic an example of a cagoule as you’re likely to see. In use, perhaps not surprisingly, it’s not the most technical, although it is one of the few to come with a mesh-lined inner to help the outer fabric absorb condensed moisture. The face fabric is not that effective when it comes ...

Regatta Airbrake

£56.00

The Airbrake doesn’t immediately feel like a standard soft shell, with a face fabric that, although plenty stretchy enough, has a hardness to it and is quite noisy when you move. The shiny surface did give it a little extra waterproofing, at least for the test duration over a few damp, misty mornings, and it also makes it a little ...

Regatta Apocalypse Mid

£70.00

Generous sizing and very soft uppers make the Apocalypse Mid feel comfortable straight from the box, albeit rather like a pair of loose slippers. They’re unique in this selection because the uppers are made from a soft shell fabric. Coupled with a waterproof lining, this helps them stay waterproof, but also makes them feel rather lacking in support. The fairly ...

Regatta Mantle

£48.00

The Mantle is quite a short jacket, yet it’s heavy and quite bulky too. This is mainly down to a mesh lining, which is comfortable but unnecessary in this type of jacket, and a stuff-sack pocket that comes with an elastic belt attached. It has a good selection of pockets (none that will take a map) but packaway hood is ...

Regatta Rockfold Mid X-LT

£60.00

The Rockfold is really a high shoe rather than a full-on boot and very much aimed at the more casual walker, with minimal midsole support and a shallow tread pattern that will only really perform on good surfaces. In its favour, it’s superbly comfortable, thanks to a broad, boxy fit and a substantial amount of padding, and the waterproof lining ...

Regatta Geo V Zip-Off Trouser

£30.00

Odd sizing makes these trousers quite big for the stated waist measurement, and the legs are incredibly baggy, too. The fabric feels good – albeit a bit on the lightweight side for year-round walking. The fact they are convertible makes them better for walking in milder conditions, although they do repel water well and dry quickly. There’s a good selection ...

Regatta Lady Fast Track Mid X-LT 2009

£70.00

The Regatta Lady Fast Track Mid X-LT weighs just 752g (pair, size 5); Isotex waterproof lining; reasonably aggressive outsole lug pattern to keep a grip in mud; excellent price. But very flexible sole and upper with a soft toe box, so not the best for rocky ground.

Regatta Sonar

£65.00

Comfortable with excellent adjustment at the hem and, more importantly, the cuffs. Soft against the skin with plenty of stretch where it’s needed. The waterproof/windproof membrane and taped seams mean it sacrifices breathability for weather resistance. Nice pockets, though, and looks good. Makes a better outer layer. VITAL STATSColours: Red, Prussian, black, seal greySizes: S-XXLFabric: Woven stretch Softshell with Isotex ...

Regatta Benthos

£75.00

A good fit – roomy enough without being baggy and with decent length sleeves that adjusted easily. The hood could be bigger, but general comfort was good, especially for the price. Quite bulky and heavy, but kept the rain out well. Breathability was okay, aided by venting pockets in the chest. Would have sneaked an extra mark with a stiffer ...

Regatta Epicentre

£45.00

A good fit in the body and sleeves, but the stiff-ish collar is a little too high, especially when unzipped. The cuffs are too tight to pull up, but a warm and very weatherproof jacket… at the expense of breathability, which is definitely noticeable when walking uphill at speed. Would like a bit more ‘give’ in the fabric, too.

Regatta Farley

£15.00

The zip-necked Farley is a good length, but the sleeves are too tight, with no give in the fabric. Good high, snug collar, though. Difficult to wear as a mid-layer as the sleeves are too tight to go over anything else. Good warmth as a base-layer, though, and it dried quickly when wet. A decent-length zip, too.Verdict A lightweight, budget-end ...

Regatta Rockfold XLT

£50.00

This lightweight multi-activity shoe from Regatta weighs 1152g (pair, size 11). It has a waterproof-lined suede and mesh upper, a very supportive heel cup and stiff, protective toe. Underneath, it has good, aggressive lugs for mud and grass and comes at a superb price for what you get. However, it’s not as well-cushioned as it could be and the sole ...

Regatta Geo Mountain Pant

£30.00

These hill-walking trousers weigh just 328g; low price tag; 2-way stretch panels on knee and seat; elasticated waist with belt loops and fly; five pockets (three zipped); drawcord ankle cuff adjustment. But pockets are quite small, even when used as handwarmers; only knee and seat panels are stretch; fabric not as durable as some; no map-sized pockets.

Regatta Geo Double ZO

£33.00

The legs of these men’s and women’s walking trousers zip off to create shorts or Capris; elasticated waist with belt loops; 6 pockets; four pockets have zips; ankle adjustment; articulated knees. But zip-offs aren’t cool on the hill or in the pub!; no pockets fully take a map; no diamond crotch; no stretch fabric.

Regatta Arroya/Amity

£40.00

This multi-activity jacket weighs 542g (men’s size L); lots of reflective material so you can be seen at night; rollaway hood with reasonable fit and peak; mesh lining adds comfort; two hip pockets; pit zips for venting; stormflap on main zip. But chest pocket is too small for a OS map; hip pockets easily obscured by rucksack belts; more cash ...

Regatta Turnstone

£60.00

A 3-season boot that features leather suede and fabric upper which keeps down price; Isotex 5000 waterproof lining; reasonably stiff sole unit flex; reasonably aggressive sole lug pattern for grip; great option at the price. But you get a better waterproof lining in some other boots and a more durable full leather upper for a higher price; relatively low ankle ...

Regatta Outcrop X-LT

£90.00

These three-season leather boots from Regatta are very broad, but rather short, resulting in plenty of toe banging. They’re well padded, but the very low ankle cuff feels less supportive than most. With a low ankle cuff and very little midsole support, the traditionally styled Outcrop leaves your feet feeling vulnerable on all but the very best paths. A fiddly ...

Regatta Invent

£40.00

This windproof fleece would score quite well were it not for the ridiculously baggy cuffs, which are really annoying as well as inefficient. A good fit in the body, with a snug high collar. The fabric is also easy to move in. Really light and compact, it keeps the wind off well and packs down easily. The baggy cuffs let ...
