Blackberry Bold 9000

£500.00

The Bold is a great gadget that combines office/telephone functionality with a GPS receiver, but it isn’t compatible with any Ordnance Survey mapping software so doesn’t really cut it as a GPS receiver. There is a link-up with a partner website www.trimble-outdoors.com which for a small subscription makes it possible to review walk statistics as well as to exchange route files with other units, but this has rather limited use without OS mapping or even the ability to pinpoint a grid reference. It’s well-built but wouldn’t cope well with bad weather in the mountains and the tiny joystick/scroll button is awkward to use with warm hands in an office let alone with cold, gloved ones in the hills.
