This 3-4 season boot was only available as a men’s model last year, but now there’s a women’s version too. It’s built around a very tough 2.6mm nubuck leather and there is barely a stitch in sight. The huge rubber rand around the toe adds vital extra durability, while a Gore-Tex waterproof lining guarantees dry feet. The ankle cuff is a little lower than some, allowing a more natural walking action, while the sole unit is not as stiff as others, again allowing a very easy walking action. Underfoot you get a very aggressive Vibram sole unit with a deep heel breast and good stiffness for tackling rocky ground. But to me this is not really a winter boot, as it’s not very stiff. You can put crampons on it, but the toe is more likely to slide off footholds than with stiffer boots. As a 3-season boot this is excellent, but I’d prefer a stiffer boot for snow.

Upper: 2.6mm Hydrobloc Zamberlan Nabuk Leather
Lining: Gore-Tex waterproof lining
Sole: Zamberlan Vibram 3D
Sizes: 42-48 (men’s); 37-43 (women’s)
Trail fit profile: forefoot narrow; heel narrow; volume medium; length short
Crampon compatibility: B1
Weight: 1832 (pair, size11)
Made in Italy
Stores in UK: 96

Verdict: This is not as stiff as other boots, so it’s best kept below the snowline and used for mountain walking, backpacking and scrambling.
