Scarpa Trek 2009

£150.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

This is the classic Scarpa Trek with a modern twist of style and function. Firstly you get a classic quality leather upper with minimal stitching so there is little chance of leakage. Inside there is a sumptuous leather lining that gives the boot a wonderful feel on the fit, straight from the box. The upper is nice and stiff, so these will be at home on the rockiest of hill and mountain terrain. But there is soft padding around the ankle cuff and also at the ankle flex point. For even more durability there is a rubber rand at the toe to add extra protection. Underfoot there’s a very aggressive pattern of lugs to keep a grip in mud, while a good stiff flex is once again ideal for rockier routes. This is a classic hill-walking boot that if cared for properly will last many years, and happily tackle the toughest mountains in the UK and the higher ones beyond. But there is no waterproof lining, so the Scarpa Trek will need looking after properly if it is to remain waterproof (but to be honest there is so little stitching that it is not going to leak easily!). Other boots are lighter of course and also less flexible, and if you prefer that sort of boot, then this is not going to be top of your list.

Upper full-grain leather
Sole Skywalk Integra; EVA cushioning
Sizes 41-48 (men’s); 37-42 (women’s)
Weight 1824g (pair, size 46)
Made in Italy
Stores in the UK 350+

Verdict: The Scarpa Trek is a superb boot for British hill-walking that once purchased should last many years unless you get bored of its classic, performance-orientated styling.

I managed to get a pair of these for £106! Great boot; comfortable straight from the box and sturdy enough for the Welsh hills in Feb. I see that Scarpa have now discontinued these and only have the Gore-Tex version. Why Scarpa?
