The low price of the Regatta Crusoe is instantly appealing. And you get an awful lot of practical features for your cash. The Crusoe has a good three-point adjustment strap system, with Velcro and neoprene padding. The straps are wide at the forefoot, to provide extra protection. Underfoot there is a good, sturdy footbed that is stiff enough to take the strain out of a rocky path, while the cushioning deadens the pounding on a hard concrete surface. For grass and muddy campsites there is good grip too from a very aggressive pattern of lugs. The Crusoe really does tick a lot of practical boxes and at this price it’s hard to not place a recommendation on it immediately, as it is remarkable value at just £25. But those straps are made from leather, so get the Regatta Crusoes wet during a river crossing or even from tramping back and forth to the shower block and they are going to take an age to dry compared to synthetic options. Some sandals are a little stiffer in the sole, while others offer even more protection and slightly more comfort when walking
