I’ve got the new Mammut branded version of these, they look identical apart from the logo. I wore these boots on an 11 hour day on the Black Cuillin after breaking them in for a grand total of 2 hours (worn around my living room while packing!). On the long slog up to Sron na Ciche with a heavy climbing sack they felt supportive and well cushioned straight away. The soles have flexible ‘fins’ in the middle which give a good grip on wet rock and the ankle area feels firm without being restrictive.
The Mammut’s were then swapped for rock shoes and put in my sack while I climbed up the Arrow Rote, past the Cioch and onto the top so I appreciated their lightness when compared with my usual heavy 3 season leather boots. The descent down the Sgumain Stone chute is ankle breaking territory especially after a long day but the Sierras made the chore much easier and safer. My feel still felt fresh even by the time I was reduced to a slow shuffle on the path out of the Corrie.
They coped well immersion in peaty puddles and boggy ground and were still dry even after a long walk in pouring rain. The breathability of the Gore-Tex liner is fantastic, my feet never over heated and stayed sweat free right until the end unlike the rest of me!
I had high expectations of the well regarded Raichle/Mammut brand but my expectations were exceeded by these excellently priced boots that can easily compete with much more expensive boots.
