The Raichle Mt Envy GTX is a lightweight 3-4 season boot that looks ideal for scrambling and mountaineering. The upper is synthetic with leather reinforcements and there is double stitching throughout to add a little durability. There is a rubber rand for extra durability on rock too. Underfoot you get a stiff flex with a reasonably aggressive outsole lug pattern, which is good for general mountain use. The outsole also gets a smooth climbing zone for better performance on rock. On the foot there is ample space around the toes coupled with a close dexterous feel to the forefoot area to improve climbing ability. There is more cushioning at the heel for comfort on hard surfaces. This feels a great walking and scrambling boot that’s particularly good for tackling mountaineering and via ferrata trips in the mountains. But the Raichle Mt Envy GTX’s upper is not as durable as a full leather option. There is less cushioning in the forefoot area, which is a drawback for general walking, but an advantage when climbing. It generally feels slightly better for mountaineering than general walking.

Verdict
If you want a year-round boot with a mountaineering bias, then this is ideal, but others have a slight edge for general year-round walking.
