Quite broad, meaning you might have to crank the laces up tight to get a stable fit. Flat laces, though, which ‘slip’ much less than round ones. A stiff-ish all-mountain boot with a fairly low ankle cuff that didn’t offer as much support as some.

VITAL STATS
Colour: Mocca
Sizes: 6-12 (UK including half-sizes)
Upper: Waxed aniline leather
Waterproof/breathable lining: Gore-Tex
Sole: Meindl Multigrip
Weight: 1,540g
Women’s version: Yes
Contact: 015395 60214, www.bramwell-int.com

Verdict: A well-made traditionally styled boot that is most comfortable on rougher ground, but will perform on easier paths. Good value, too.

I had a pair of Brasher Hill Master boots that lasted about 6 years. When they died, I replaced them with another pair. After 10 months, I found I was walking over on them, so I decided to treat my self to a different make of boot. After trying on about 6 different boots at Foothills in Sheffield (excellent independant outdoor shop by the way), I decided on the Vermont Pro's. They are quite a stiff leather boot and have taken a good 80+ miles to break in. I have not had any blisters, just a few aches and pains. But they are now really comfortable and the boots are exceptionally well made. I would therefore given them a 5 star rating.
