Meindl Burma Pro MFS 2009

£175.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

The Meindl Burma Pro MFS is a modern classic that changed the marketplace when it arrived on the scene many years ago. It has been a frequent winner of 3-season boot tests in Trail. Its success has been due to a mix of features that are all dedicated to performance on the hill. So you get a good leather upper, with a Gore-Tex waterproof lining. There is also a large amount of padding inside that makes it very comfortable straight from the box. The upper offers plenty of protection and support, and there is a rubber rand to add to the durability. Underfoot a dual density Vibram sole unit provides excellent support and comfort while the sole flex and lug pattern are ideal for a variety of valley, hill and mountain terrain. If you can afford the price tag this is a highly recommended boot that’s exceptionally hard to beat on performance. But recent price rises in outdoor gear due to changes in the global economy mean that the Meindl Burma Pro MFS has shot up from its £140 price tag of 2008. It is still a superb option, but other boots have held their price better that this model so it is harder to justify spending the cash. There are plenty of lighter and lower-priced choices out there this year.

Upper nubuck leather, Gore-Tex waterproof lining
Sole Meindl Multigriff by Vibram
Sizes 6-14 (men’s); 3.5-9 (women’s)
Weight 1648g (pair, size 8.5

Verdict: The Meindl Burma Pro MFS is a classic and well-proven boot, shaded into second place as other options have not had such a high price hike as these … yet!

In December 2006 I purchased my first pair of Mendl Burma Pro MFS Boots. I wore these straight out of the box without any problems. I have worn them in a wide variety of conditions and over a multitude of terrains. They have clocked up 841 miles in the four and a quarter years that I have worn them. I have always considered my Meindl boots to be my most important piece of kit and a valuable asset. They have given me many years of pleasure during my walking adventures. On 14th March I purchased a replacement pair of Meindl Burma Pro MFS Boots (from GO Outdoors in Wigan). I have worn these boots for three walks and on each occasion I have encountered extreme soreness in my ankles on both feet. This was a huge disappointment to me, having previously had no problems with my first pair. I compared the internal padding on both pairs of boots for the ankles areas where I have had the problems. I discovered that my old boots have an additional padding area (approximately 10mm thick) in the ankle area, which obviously works well. This is not included on my new boots. If the design has been modified for some reason, I am really disappointed. If I am stuck with this new design I will need to look for a new pair of replacement boots, the new Meindl boots are unfit for purpose in my case.

Bought a pair of these boots about 2 months ago (hardly extensive testing, i know but) i found the fit of them absolutely incredible considering i have slightly wider feet than normal. I had read a couple of reviews saying that your feet can get very hot from the memory foam and that they are quite heavy on a long distance trip, but i didnt find either of these issues were apparent(Although, being a thrower and former powerlifter, i wouldnt expect to find boots to be heavy, so only your own opinion can help you on that front). Also, when i bought the boots i couldnt help but notice how reasuringly well made they looked compared to other competitors, with their thick sole indents and the little added extra of the lace hook on the tongue is a small, simple thing but really secures your foot into the boot and fully supports your ankle upwards. As i mentioned, i have only used these boots for about 2 months but they have worked perfectly covering miles over Cannock Chase (mainly woodland), 1 day walk (18 miles) over and around Bleaklow with about 4 or 5 inches of snow and a 2 day walk in the Lake District (35 miles). Finally, almost forgot to mention i have recently seen these boots at discout prices of £145 in Blacks and £99 !! which was on a one day offer in Go Outdoors.
