Meindl Borneo Pro MFS

£125.00

These three-season boots from Meindl feel great from the off, due in no small part to the wonderful leather lining and excellent padding on the tongue and heel. They are broad in the toe and a little long, meaning you might have to lace them very tight to get a firm fit on steep descents. The Borneo makes a top-notch hill/mountain boot, with a medium to stiff midsole, high ankle cuff and rubber protection for the nubuck leather upper. They have no waterproof membrane, so will need treating regularly to keep them waterproof, but this does make them a touch cooler and more breathable than boots with waterproof linings.

Verdict: A well-made boot that excels higher up the hill, but will still do a job on easier going. Ideal if you don’t want a waterproof membrane, and the broader toe box will suit those with wider feet.

I've been using these boots for 2 years over hills along coastal paths and scrambling over crags in the lakes and they are exceptional, the build quaility is amazing and comfort wise they cannot be beaten in my book, the memory foam ankle cuff and tongue are very soft and felt like old friends straight from the box(I'll admit though that fit and comfort is a very subjective matter as I tried on 18 pairs of boots before I found these so we'll concentrate on performance here!) You should be aware that these boots do not have a a waterproof lining so need to be looked after with regular cleaning and waterproofing (I use grangers) but this gives better breathability to your feet so in warm weather your feet won't sweat as much which was something I wanted from my boots as I use them much more in the warmer months, saying that though I have walked through soaking mud, fords and streams and had no problems. The lacing system ensures you have a great fit that stays in place without the need for constant re-tightening when out on the hill. All in all I couldn't be happier with mine and will replace them when needed with the same ones.
