La Sportiva Glacier Evo GTX

£170.00

LFTO rating rating is 3

With this 4-season boot, a one-piece leather upper provides the primary barrier against the mountain environment, so there is no stitching to fray and little chance of water getting in. You get a Gore-Tex waterproof lining to guarantee dry feet though and a rubber rand around the toe to guarantee durability. A solid toe box provides vital protection while the high ankle cuff provides welcome support on rough ground or when mountaineering. A double tongue improves the comfort of the laces too. A reasonably aggressive sole unit is combined with reasonable stiffness for mountain use on most terrain. Use this for above and below the snowline and it is great. But this boot has a softer flex that other B2-rated boots here and to me I think it is more of a stiff 3-4 season boot rather than 4-season boot. Also the boot is not quite as comfortable as the best when walking and doesn’t provide quite the same level of smooth rolling action as the best here.

Upper: 2.8mm roughout Perwanger. Gore-Tex waterproof lining
Sole: Vibram
Sizes:  41-48 (men’s); 37-43 (women’s)
Crampon compatibility: B1/B2
Weight: 2170g (pair, size 11)
Made in Italy
Stores in UK: 39

Verdict: A great boot for use above and below the snowline if you want a high ankle cuffed boot for mountaineering and easier snow terrain.

I've had a pair of these boots for just under a year now and they are fantastic for mixed winter use, I find the grip is not as good as my hitec boots on wet grass but they keep out much more water and snow than most boots. The flex of the boots is amazing as well for the level of support they offer, watch out for rubbing around the top of the ankles but all in all well worth the money.
