Brasher Trailmaster GTX

£120.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

The 3-season Trailmaster builds on the success and performance of the Brasher Hillmaster, the UK’s most popular walking boot, by being a little more aggressive in its design. The upper is thick nubuck leather with minimal stitching to ensure it is water-resistant as well as durable. A Gore-Tex lining makes the boot waterproof. This upper is a little stiffer than the Hillmaster, making it better suited to rough mountain terrain. You get a very stiff toe box too and a stiff heel cup, which are both ideal for rough terrain. Underfoot you get a very aggressive sole unit with good stiffness to make rocky paths comfortable. Inside there is a leather lining. All in all this is ideal for general hill and mountain walking or backpacking over most types of terrain. But this boot has a relatively low ankle cuff and so when compared to some other boots, this is perhaps not quite as supportive, so others are better on really rough scree and loose rock. However those sticking to easier hill paths and moorland will find Trailmaster ideal. Like all Gore-Tex lined boots this will be hotter than unlined equivalent designs.

Upper: 2.4/2.6mm Nubuck leather, Gore-Tex waterproof lining
Sole: REVAlution
Sizes: 6-13
Trail fit profile: forefoot 2; heel 2; volume 2; length 2
Weight: 1824g (pair, size 11)
Made in Portugal
Stores in UK: no info provided

Verdict: Buy it if you want a quality waterproof boot for walking and backpacking over moorland, hill and mountain paths and don’t need the higher levels of support provided by some other boots.

A Good comfortable Boot with Leather lining I have had these boots for over two years and walked over 1000 miles in them. Not a single blister even on long hat days. Comfort from day one.

RE: Brasher Trailmaster GTX

Notwithstanding their other qualities, my experience was exactly the same as tattenhallrunner's - on wet rock they were like ice skates. Not sure what kind of rubber compound they use, but it couldn't have been more different from Vibram. I had a couple of scary falls (i.e. top of the Blue Nile Falls) with them and wouldn't buy again for that reason.

Re: Brasher Trailmaster GTX

My wife has had Brasher boots for years, and is currently using the Trailmasters.

She's worn them on many English, Welsh, & Scottish hills in virtually all weathers.
They grip like glue on practically anything (mud, wet rock, etc..).

Re: Brasher Trailmaster GTX

I've found these to be a very comfortable boot and so far totally waterproof BUT I find they have a very slippy sole. So much so that I put little trust in the boots sticking on wet or damp rocks.

I have had quite a few slips and falls in them due to this. Anyone else struggling with them or have I simply got a duff pair?
