Brasher Supalite GTX 2009

The Brasher Supalite GTX is probably the best lightweight boot on the market, in my view.  I’ve used it since it appeared many years ago. I prefer more supportive boots for hill-walking, but when I want to travel lighter, this is my first choice. It is very light but more importantly it is leather and has been proven to last. The Gore-Tex waterproof lining is protected on the inside by a leather lining, and this leather-Gore-leather sandwich has remained waterproof while other lightweights have started leaking very easily in my experience. The stiff toe box and rubber bumper is good for rocky ground. Underfoot there is an excellent sole unit with deep, but wide-spaced lugs that don’t clog as easily as other sole units and make the boot ideal for clawing over mud. Stiffness in the sole is surprisingly good too, making this useable on reasonably rocky terrain. But heavier boots offer more support for the foot and ankle by having a stiffer upper and ankle, so the Brasher Supalite GTX is not ideal if you prefer more support. The upper is very soft around the foot and so it does not protect the foot from stray boulders as well as stiff boots. There are lighter and lower-priced boots too, which may provide all you need just as well.
