These sandals from Bite feel great from the word go, and with a little fine-tuning become very, very stable and secure. The removable footbed means that orthotic wearers can also get the best out of them. The midsole stiffness is spot on for general trail walking, although the outsole is best suited to firm and dry going. The bumpers are subtle, yet effective.

Verdict: Rugged sandals made for walking. Heavier than many and a lot of money, but if you want to do some miles with your toes exposed, these are the boys.
