Lightweight, comfortable and supportive enough, with a good lacing system that ensures feet stay put on even the steepest slopes. Lightweight and breathable with a medium-stiff midsole and a nice deep tread. Perform well on all terrain and the Gore-Tex lining will keep feet dry.

Colours: Navy/mid-blue, steel/mid-blue
Sizes: 3.5-8 (UK), 36-42 (‘Euro)
Upper: Mesh
Waterproof/breathable lining: Gore-Tex
Sole: Asylum/PU
Weight: 1,060g
Men’s version: Yes
Contact: 0191 516 5700, www.berghaus.com

Verdict: An excellent all-round three-season boot at a fair price. The uppers are soft, breathable and waterproof and the soles grip well on all surfaces. A good buy.

I've had these boots for a couple of years and they are OK. They arnt too great for heavy walking but for light to modarate trails their great and I would'nt carry anthing more than a sack. I usually use them for camping were they are on my feet from 7am to 2am and my feet dont camplain. All in their a good lightweight boot that will get the job done.

I have owned these for a while now and use them daily to walk the dog in the fields - no matter what the weather and my feet have never been cold or wet. I have given these boots a fairly rough ride as they don't get to rest and so any walking in the hills, whether wet, dry hard, boggy, scree etc... they have accompanied me. The lace up system its sound, quick and reliable. There is enough room to prevent my toes getting squashed and if it wasn't for my dog they would be my best friend, comfortable there are. However, they are light and not the most rigid for hard walking on rocky terrain, though the tread is both reliable and the sole is grippy. Just recently the stitching has become lose where the softer material attaches to the suede at the crease of the boot (but only on one side). Personally for the money a fantastic, reliable, comfortable, boot that gets my thumbs up. Would I buy another pair? Yes.

saving a kilo on my 4 season zamberlans, these boots are light, comfortable, great grip. Great lacing making you feel comfortable and secure. The grip provided by the well designed sole is exceptional. For £85.00 cant go wrong, 5 star boots!

RE: Berghaus Explorer V GTX

Bought a pair of these for light hiking / walking and they've covered about 30 miles up to now with no problems whatsoever. Great at keeping my comfortable and dry, I personally feel that at the current price (around £70 depending on where you look I think) they're a great boot and very good value for what they do.

RE: Berghaus Explorer V GTX

I was supplied with a pair of Explorers V by my employers. I too thought that my ship had come in, especially as I have a bunion at the base of my left big toe. There's lots of room in these boots, which suited me because of the above foot problem and the light weight is unbelievable. But mine were returned a couple of weeks ago because the stitiching had come away on the outside of the boot where the softer material meets the suede, just where the boot creases before the foot is raised. I returned the boots to Berghaus on a thursday, and to their credit, a new pair of Explorer Trek arrived the following wednesday. I wear my boots everyday for working in, as I work outside on the moors/Pennines and I've found the Explorer V to be too lightweight and not up to the job. I walked home from Edale the other week in the Treks, (about 20 miles) and found the Treks to be very comfortable. They seem a little more rugged and stiffer than the Explorer Vs. I've covered a few miles this week in the Treks, over snow, peat and scree and they seem to be holding up ok...up to now.
