Berghaus Explorer V GTX

£85.00

LFTO rating rating is 2
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

A 3-season boot that features Gore-Tex waterproof lining; lightweight; reasonably aggressive lug pattern on sole; low ankle cuff improving walking comfort; very stiff toe box. But fit is a bit baggy compared to some others at this price; very flexible sole is not ideal for rocky ground.

Verdict: Buy it if you want a waterproof boot for valley and easier hill-walks.

Good boot. Hard wearing. They would need to be as i am very hard on footwear.Very waterproof and comfy, reasonable grip. I have used these in all kinds of weather in both high mountains and low valleys and performance has been great!

RE: Berghaus Explorer V GTX

I've had a pair of these for 3 years now and they've been around Dartmoor and all the way up the highest peaks in the Highlands. They are extremely comfortable and still fully waterproof (if looked after). My only real quarm with them is that the grip isn't great and although they are excellent for low level walks I don't feel safe in them walking on high level ridges... All round a very comfy, reasonably priced boot, but if you are going high level invest in Scarpa or Miendl.

Berghaus Explorers

I have a pair of much earlier boots (about 7 years old now) and they remain superb! I am very light on footwear, but after 7yrs the soles are almost new. They have never let in water, except when I have misjudged the depth of streams etc and the water has come over the top. They clean up great, and using top quality cleaning materials I expect at least another two years out of them! On the latest models the sole pattern has been changed, so I can't vouch for grip etc. But my old ones have have taken me everywhere and I have never felt uneasy. Good Stuff!!

Re: Berghaus Explorer V GTX

:smile I have used a pair of these for nearly 2 years now. Everything from valley walks to tough scrambles and im now currently useing them everyday for work as there very comfortable and fairly lightweight.

Excellant grip on rock in the dry, but not so good in the wet if the rock is polished like on some popular routes.

Im going to invest in a new pair im so impressed with the old ones, which are still waterproof if treated about once every 3 months. For more serious mountain stuff ide proberbly go for Scarpa.

Re: Berghaus Explorer V GTX

:smile   I had the Explorer IV for a few years and never really appreciated them. I walked 15 miles in one day with no sign of any blisters. When eventually the Gore-tex lining sprung a leak I invested in another pair of boots. Unfortuantely I chose a  pair of Karrimor KSB. I found these very hard on the undersides of my feet. After 12 months I gave in and invested in another pair of Explorers, the V version now. They are so comfortable, I would recommend them to anyone for general walking and for the Lake's peaks.
