These three-season leather boots from Berghaus are a broad, roomy fit and plenty of padding provides instant comfort, but it can be hard to get a really stable fit, so you may suffer a little from toe banging on downhill sections. A lightweight boot with a very flimsy midsole that makes it best suited to muddy, grassy or well-surfaced paths. The full-grain leather upper provides a classic look and a Gore-Tex lining keeps water at bay.

Verdict: A traditional-looking walking boot best for easier going – especially softer muddy or grassy trails. Good value for a full leather boot with a Gore-Tex lining though.

I bought a pair of these earlier this year and walked the length of the Hadrian's Wall Trail in them. No blisters, watertight, cool and superbly comfortable and at only £80 I was well pleased with the price I paid. Only possible issue is the lack of Vibram soles but really a very minor detail.
