In the Berghaus GR20 Leather GTX 3-4 season boot a virtually stitch-free leather upper is combined with a rubber rand at the toe for good levels of durability. There is a double tongue for extra comfort and a Gore-Tex waterproof lining too. Unlike many other 3-4 season boots you get a relatively low ankle cuff for extra walking comfort and lower weight. Underfoot the sole is a very aggressive Vibram unit with plenty of stiffness and grip for rock and scree. This boot fills a niche that is growing as UK winters become milder. It is a boot that can take a crampon and can deal with winter, but it should be approached as a boot for less challenging winter conditions. The price has not been increased, so this is a real bargain in terms of value. But given that the ankle cuff is lower than many and therefore not very supportive – and the flex is a little softer than some – your feet will have to work a bit harder on steeper or rougher terrain. So this means that other boots are better when walking on snow and also for mountaineering or really rocky ground.

Verdict
The price of the Berghaus GR20 Leather GTX 3-4 season boot is amazing for the performance, and it is great for mountain backpacking and use on level snow.
