BRASHER ASO GTX

Review: Broad, roomy boots, ideal for wide or voluminous feet, and the lacing is excellent. They are well-padded, too, so the right shaped feet will get a very comfy ride. The deep cleats gripped well on mud and snow, but away from snow and ice the boots are a bit heavy and clumsy. With a crampon, they felt secure and comfortable, although the ankle cuff isn’t as supportive as some. They have a Gore-Tex membrane and the upper is a suede/fabric mix, but for this money we’d like to see a full-leather upper.

I picked up a pair of these for £60 and they were labelled as cosmetic seconds. They have now done me two full winters and although I had a few teething problems with them trial and error with lacing and extra socks did the job and I can see them lasting me a few more years at least. They are a bit clunky and possibly heavy compared to others but for crampon use and kicking in steps etc they are great and considering winter boots retail at £180ish a bargain even at £100
