Unlike many other 3-4 season boots, the Asolo Powermatic 500 GV boot has managed to hold its price this winter, which makes it a superb buy for the money. You get a one-piece leather upper with a waterproof lining, so even though the upper is going to be tough and very water-resistant, it has a waterproof lining to make it even more impenetrable. This upper is also protected at the toe and heel by a rubber rand for yet more durability. The lacing extends further down the toes than on most boots, for a more precise fit, which will favour performance when scrambling. There is a good level of ankle support too. Underfoot you get a great sole unit with perfect flex for year-round use and a good aggressive lug pattern from Vibram. Cushioning underfoot is very good too, thanks to three densities of rubber in the sole unit. But I would like the Asolo Powermatic 500 GV to have a deeper heel breast and a more aggressive set of lugs on the outsole to deal with snow and really wet winter mud. Also a deeper sole lug would last longer.
