Asolo Imperial GV 2011

£140.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 1.5

The Asolo imperial GV is an outstanding price for what you are getting. Firstly this is an upper made from virtually one piece of leather than is at least 2.5mm thick, and this makes it water-resistant, wear-resistant and supportive. There is a Gore-Tex waterproof lining for really wet Scottish bogs. The lacing extends close to the toe for a more precise fit, and there’s some articulation in the ankle to improve comfort. The sole unit is a new Asolo/Vibram unit with an extremely deep heel breast and a good set of well-spaced lugs for grip and long-term wear. There is plenty of stiffness too which all adds up to making this a superb general hill-walking boot at an equally attractive price. But yhere are boots with rubber rands on the outside if you are a really hard user.  Of course there are lighter and lower-priced options than the Asolo imperial GV too, while some boots may just fit you better than this. But for many walkers, this is going to be hard to beat.

Upper 2.5-2.7mm full-grain leather; Gore-Tex waterproof lining
Sole Asolo/Vibram Radiant
Sizes 6-13½ (men’s); 3½-9½ (women’s)
Weight 1360g (pair, size 8)
Made in Romania
Stores in the UK 50

The Asolo imperial GV is an excellent new valley, hill and mountain walking boot that offers most of what most walkers need at a respectable price.

Wow, what can one say about this boot? Tried this boot at the shop (spent over an hour getting the right boot) and it felt great, went home tested the boot before taking them out walking, so far so good. Sorry but the happy story stops there. Walked over a hundred miles in these foot killers and the only good point I can find in the boot is in going downhill, the support is exceptional, the confidence the boot gives is phenomenal, be it over rocks, mud or loose stones the Asolo can do it all. The waterproofing is as good as you would expect. The big sting in the tale is getting up there to enjoy the boot, on the flat or going uphill the boot kills. I find myself stopping every ten minutes to re- adjust them, it seems tight in one place loose in another, when you think you’ve got it comfy it all starts again, it doesn’t matter how I do them up I cannot get them right even without using the bottom eye holes my feet are in bits and to top it all of the weight is a killer. Four days after last wearing them my feet are still sore! Too sum up. If you have feet like a princess and legs like arnie this maybe the boot for you. If you’re normal, look elsewhere. Not worth a 4 star rating.
