Alt-Berg Fremington

£120.00

LFTO rating rating is 3
Owners' rating rating is 3

These three-season leather boots from Alt-Berg are available in various widths and volumes, as well as half sizes, so most people should be able to get a good fit. That said, the ‘wide’ section of the boot can still feel too far forward for your feet. With a medium-stiff midsole and reasonably high, supportive, full-grain leather upper, the Fremington makes a good all-rounder. Against it though, it feels a little sweatier than Gore-Tex lined models.

Verdict: A good all-rounder, but the main selling point here is the choice of sizes, and the Fremington should fit even the most awkward of feet with some skilled fitting.

Ok, why would i not recommend these boots. Having had the boots professionaly fitted to my feet, I was sure that my right foot was lifting at the heel. I was assured that it wasn't and I took that advice. Now having used the boots for breaking in, over the previous bad snow and icey conditions, ideal, i stilll feel that my feet are lifting at the heel. The grip of the soles in the recent conditions is abissmal. I asked the supplier if the boots where ok in wet conditions, and the reply was well you need to be careful!!!! Geeee, walking home tonight in slight frost, the pavements where like walking on ice in parts and thats just frost. I had better grip in the bad conditionds from a pair of cheap Hi Tec boots than i had from these Fremlingtons!!!! Hope the grip improves with some wear but is that wishful thinking. My wife also bought a pair at the same time and she is also in total aggrement with me on the quality of grip in anything but dry conditions. The boots may look nice, feel nice, but what good are they if in wet conditionds you don't feel safe. Sorry Alt Berg, the sole needs to be better than they are at this moment in time. Yes Alt Berg have a goood repair services, etc, etc, but not much good if they fit the same soles. My kERRYMORE ksb sixty quid boots have never felt so unsafe in the last FOUR years of wear. So, nice boot, good fit and warm but a terrible grip on anything but dry. So overall one star purly because of poor grip, after all why pay over £120 for a pair of boots you can't trust, look for some others or buy crampons!!!!!

These boots were comfortable out of the box. I bought them on the Wednesday and did eight miles on the Thursday and thirteen miles on the Sunday with no problems. I have now had them for two months and done around 160 miles. At £125:00 a bit on the pricey side but with the half sizes and five width fitting you should be able to get a boot that fits correctly.
