Review: These boots were definitely the ‘best in test’ for walking without crampons and although they aren’t the best with crampons, they are more than good enough. The upper is a very warm, one-piece 2.6-2.8mm Nubuk, which looks good and takes knocks well. They have a Gore-Tex membrane to keep water at bay, and the chunky rubber rand means they still looked good after several mountain days. The outsole is a good compromise for grip on rock and softer going, and the midsole is stiff enough for crampons. The tongue is an odd design that only folds on one side, which should feel more comfortable than a traditional design but takes initial adjustment. The lacing is superb, with a well-placed locking eyelet to enable different tension across the foot and ankle. A near-perfect winter walking boot.
