Jetboil Jetboil

£50.00

LFTO rating rating is 5
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

The Jetboil has to be one of the most efficient camping stoves in the world, and in our test it burned for an astonishing 5 hours 40 seconds, far surpassing more traditional stoves on the ‘boils per canister’ ratio. The whole thing packs down inside the mug-shaped pan too; so, although it looks quite big, the size is deceptive. And when you factor in this inclusive pan you realise it’s actually quite light too. In use, the Jetboil resembles something of a tower, but you can get a gas canister cradle to improve the stability (which we recommend). You can also get a simple attachment which allows you to use the burner with traditional pans, thereby overcoming the stove’s main shortcoming (see below). But what really stands out is perhaps a bit of a gimmick, but a good one – there is a coffee plunger which fits the cup. I mean, how stylish is that? But the biggest problem with the Jetboil is its lack of versatility: without a special adapter you can’t use it with conventional traditional pans and therefore can’t fry, or easily cook dinner for two or more. And because much of the system’s efficiency is in the design of the pan, once the adaptor is fitted the Jetboil becomes a normal stove and loses its advantage over other stoves on test. Also, standing that tall seriously reduces its stability.

Verdict: Buy it if you do lots of solo cooking and want an incredibly efficient stove, but don’t mind the reduced stability. It would be ideal for long solitary treks where weight and efficiency are key and you could take one canister rather than two.

I love mine. Great performance, quick to boil water, pretty reliable in windy conditions. I use 'feet' on the canister for extra stability. Yes you lose performance if you want to use saucepans etc, but not necesasry for 1-2 nigth trips. Also carry lighter, in case piezo fails, which it has done once or twice.

Free with Trail MasterCard - bargain ! Superb concept, well executed and with the feet/pan adaptor and a foil (MSR) windshield I would be without it. It's not ultralight but but light enough. Piezo let me down once on top of Y Garn but had had packed a lighter just in case... othewise faultfree for couple of years now.

The jetboil is a great stove, and its efficiency is so much better than any other I have tried. Combined with the ability to pack into itself I totally recommend it. The Jetboil utensils are a great addition. Only real niggle is the piezo ignition is a faff at altitude (no issue in UK) so be sure to carry a lighter. Also disagree with the main review with regards to carry one cannister, if solo, still carry two, if you damage thread have faulty cannister you still have a reserve.

I have had a Jetboil for a number of years but never used it, that is not to say it has never been used. My daughter took it with herself and her father on the Scally Rally 2006 in which they drove a car worth only £100 from Calais to Madrid. She had such fun she took part in the same event this year with her boyfriend, again the Jetboil was vital equipment. She tells me it was a vital aid in their survival. Even over the Pyranees it reliably boiled their favourite brew. There is talk that next year my OH and I will do the Irish Scally Rally and daughter intends to also take part, the Jetboil comes with ME

Re: Jetboil Jetboil

Do you mean a gas canister?

Jetboil's will take all canisters. The canister which will fit IN the jetboil cost me £2.99 from Blacks. Bargain!

And it lasts as long as a big one in an ordinary cooker.

Re: Jetboil Jetboil

I'm gonna be ordering one soon to replace my old coleman contraption.

I've found it for £54 delivered - good deal?  Websites I've looked at don't list the canisters as they can't ship them in the post.  What sort of price are they?  I can't get to a store 'til next weekend....

Anything that can break easily on them?  All the reviews seem to be pretty good.

Ta muchly :)

Re: Jetboil Jetboil

Jetboil is the stove system I take to the mountains now, it's light, packable and fast. The piezo ignition is problematic at high altitude, not an issue for GB use.

Useful additions to any user are the Jetboil utensils, and the cargo cozy to stash them with the jetboil.
