TSL Naos 2010

£26.00

LFTO rating rating is 3
Owners' rating rating is 0

The TSL Naos differs from many similar headtorches in that its casing is made from aluminium. So you should be able to treat this with a little less respect than some others without fear of it getting smashed. This does perhaps make it a little heavier than it needs to be, but it is still a respectable 94g. There is just one bulb, but it is a high-power LED that can kick out 51 lumens over a distance of 70m. There are full and low power settings plus strobe. On lower power settings it will provide light for 40 hours. The housing can be tilted with a ratchet system to prevent vibrational drift. Unusually for a lighter headtorch you also get a top-of-head strap to prevent the torch from drifting down the forehead. I think this is a valuable addition, although it’s not essential.  But the TSL Naos has no battery level indicator and no red lamp option for night vision. These two features are provided on higher-priced headtorches. The battery cover is not as easy to remove as others, particularly with cold or wet fingers in the dark. The power output options are very limited compared to some others available here for more cash.

Bulbs 1 x 1 watt white high-output LED
Brightness 51 lumens
Maximum beam 70 metres
Max burn time 40 hours
Batteries 3 x AAA (included)
Battery charge indicator no
Weight with batteries 94g
Made in China
Stores in the UK no info provided

Verdict
The TSL Naos is excellent for the price. The features are all that many walkers and campers will need most of the time.
