Vaude Brenta 35 (2011)

£80.00

The adjustable back system has to be the biggest draw for this pack, being one of the simplest to adjust and allowing you to customise the fit. The real benefit comes from the ability to customise the amount of curve in the suspended mesh back system. Two small tabs are all it takes and so the pack can be adjusted ...

Vaude Slight Pro

£240.00

A really lightweight jacket weighing a mere 250g. The fit is generous, easily covering the hips, and there’s plenty of length in the arms too. The fabric feels silky smooth against the skin and is great to move around in. It has a decent-sized hood that swivels well with head movement, and there are baffle adjusters at the back and ...

Vaude Farley III

£70.00

A classic pair of trousers built with an eye towards travelling, thanks to their built-in sun protection and mosquito repellent. There is no stretch in the fabric, although the cut is suitably generous to negate this. The fabric itself is fairly lightweight too, aiming them at the summer walker. They aren’t a true convertible trouser but you can roll the ...

Vaude Astra Light 60 2011

£140.00

The Vaude Astra Light 60 – a new, lightweight version of the classic Astra 65, a frequent winner of Trail tests – is the only pack here that uses a zip for main access. It also sports a versatile adjustable back system for comfort, which does, however, make it the heaviest on test. DesignThis and the Berghaus Torridon 65 are ...

Vaude Cyclone II

£90.00

A slightly thicker style of top that is great when the weather is a little cooler, the Cyclone II has a thick, fleecy lining that really helps to trap the warmth inside but does add to the weight and bulk of the top. Vaude’s Wind Proof 100 membrane keeps the breeze out and further adds to a toasty feeling. It ...

Vaude Power Tokee Ultralight 2011

The Power Tokee Ultralight takes the successful format of Vaude’s Power Lizard two-person tent and tapers it down to a one-person package. It pitches as one, and goes up quickly, with the main pole being easily attached via external clips. Both ends of the tent are fitted with rods, which give stability and extra internal height. There are guy points ...

Vaude Triset 35+8

£65.00

A long, slim shape allows for great amounts of upper body movement. The Aeroflex mesh back system is airy and has a useful length adjustment. It’s a bit complicated to work out, but is excellent once you do, with a decent range of adjustment. The face fabric is rugged and hard-wearing, if heavier than some, but the lack of a ...

Vaude Triset 35+8 2010

£65.00

The Vaude Triset won ‘Best Value’ in the June 08 Trail test (it’s £10 more expensive now) and here it keeps its closest competitor – the Lowe Alpine AirZone – among the runners-up. If you’re looking for a pack with an airflow back system it would be worth checking out both of these models along with the Karrimor Airspace. This ...

Vaude Power Lizard UL 2010

£350.00

Is light always right? It’s easy to make a tent lighter after all. Just make it smaller, ditch the porch and use a single layer of material rather than an inner and an outer. But how light can a tent be if it offers two-person space, a double wall and retains a porch? According to Vaude, the Power Lizard holds ...

Vaude Spline 40 2010

£130.00

It would be easy to think that the standard rucksack design is the best design for the job. But it is possible to come up with a radical rethink of how a rucksack operates. And that is exactly what the designers of the Vaude Spline have done. This sack boasts a wealth of innovative design concepts. But do they work? ...

Vaude Samur 2010

£45.00

The Vaude Samur shirt is made from cocona – a coconut-derived fabric that is odour-resistant. It feels less instantly airy than other tops here but it is comfortable and offers a sun protection factor (SPF ) of 25. It’s a good, functional top that would work well on gentler walks and at the all-you-can eat hotel buffet. Review by Matt ...

Vaude Farley Pants 2010

£65.00

Perfectly designed for walkers heading overseas, Vaude’s Farley Pants offer sun and mosquito protection and are fast-drying. Offering great comfort thanks to the soft Supplex material and elasticated hipbelt, these were one of my favourites in the test. These offer a 3/4 length option and plenty of secure pockets, and they are one of the most comfortable on test.

Vaude Micro Mikeli 2010

£28.00

Plain, lightweight, great colour, almost shiny and close-fitting: the Vaude Micro Mikeli, a 100 per cent polyester top, feels very comfortable, but it does have a tendency to cling to extra flesh so you need to have the figure to deal with it. It boasts ‘Bluesign’ credentials, which means it’s been made responsibly, and has UPF50+ sun protection. Review by ...

Vaude Triset Ultralight 35 2009

Vaude Kiowa Basic 220 2009

Vaude Slight

£185.00

This is a light and compact jacket, but its minimalist design comes at a price in terms of both cash and performance. It is restricted to a single pocket, which is too small for a map, and the hood is quite shallow, although it adjusts well and has a wired peak. There’s no venting anywhere, which makes it hot, and ...

Vaude Power Odyssee XT 2009

£375.00

Some of my most sleepless nights outdoors have been when the winds have been so strong that the tent either flattened against my face and sprang back each time a gust swept across, or the tent poles snapped because they were not flexible enough to bend under the pressure of a gust. Either way, high winds can ruin your night. But ...

VAUDE TRISET 35+8

Review: The concave back system is cool and reasonably stable. The straps aren’t as luxurious as some, but are still comfy even when carrying large loads.
