Vango Vacuum Flask

£10.00

This flask kept its contents warm enough. It’s the lightest 1000ml flask in the test with an easy-to-use, glove-friendly pourer that won’t become clogged. The cup also gets a wide plastic liner to stop scalded lips. But you don’t get the best insulating performance, nor are there any instructions for cleaning and pre-heating.   Capacity: 1000mlMaterials: stainless steel flask and ...

Big Agnes Clearview Air Pad

£41.00

This is the most compact alternative to the traditional self-inflating mattress. The Air Pad packs down incredibly small, but inflates to a respectable 200x50x5cm. There is no foam filling, and it’s clear to look through as the name suggests DesignThe Clearview comes packed in a tiny mesh stuffsack that can be easily slipped into a pocket of a rucksack, unlike ...

Kohla Evo Ultralite

£60.00

These Kohla Evo Ultralite poles are very light at 430g, with lots of good features, including a plastic grip to undo/tighten the bottom section easily. The straps look good, but aren’t all that comfortable and aren’t left or right-specific, either. There’s no anti-shock – but many walkers prefer this – though the poles could have been a little longer.

So while being lower in price than the best poles here it also benefits from an exceptionally low weight and a very compact size, making it ideal for stowing on your rucksack when it is not required during winter ...

Mountain King Carbon Compact 2010

£70.00

Mountain King Carbon Compact poles are made in the UK – unlike most others, which are made in the Far East. As the name suggests this model has carbon pole sections to reduce weight, and at just 404g per pair they won’t weigh you down. The poles are locked in place with the useful twist-lock internal mechanism, while the lower ...

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir

£90.00

Cascade Designs’ Therm-a-Rest self-inflating sleeping mats are now de rigueur for any self-respecting backpacker. But not content with a huge range of mats, the company has created the NeoAir, which is more compact and lighter than self-inflating mats of similar size.   DesignWithin this mat is a barrier to reflect heat back, while a Triangular Core Matrix of baffles creates ...

Leki Thermolite XL 2010

£93.00

Leki is a well-proven trekking pole brand and the Thermolite XL is one of its latest models. It was good to see it comes with a detailed instruction swing tag, so at least users know how to use it and look after it. The Aergon handle features a quick-release design that allows the wrist loops to be loosened instantly in ...
