Platypus Big Zip Hoser

£21.00

LFTO rating rating is 3
Owners' rating rating is 4

One of the original hydration system brands, the Platypus Big Zip Hoser uses three-layer laminate to add extra durability, while the taste was among the best. The bite valve can be locked closed to prevent drips. The zip opening allows easy cleaning and filling, and it survived our 20kg test. But there are no suspension loops, so the hydration system can move around easily. This adds to nervousness about the zip closure system, which may be accidentally opened more easily than other designs.

Materials: 3-layer laminate with PU lining
Capacity: 2 litres
Weight: 128g
Made in Ireland
Stores in UK: England 300; Wales 30; Scotland 50; Ireland 20

Verdict: Buy it if you trust the Big Zip to work no matter how much the bladder moves around.

The whole selling point of big zips is the BIG ZIP at the top of these babies - It allows easy filling and also easy cleaning. The only problem is that the zip is not quite as reliable as Platypus make-out. I've seen people walking along as if their backpacks waters have broken beecause a bit of weights shifted in the pack, put just a teeny bit too much pressure on the Big Zip and causes a good 1 litre plus of water to erupt. Pass the tissues. Like all Plats they're a good idea - the plastics thick and doesnt puncture too easily, they DO clean easily and WILL take boiling water but DO NOT microwave them to force the final few blebs of water out of them - the smells similar to what losing a PVC-wrapped Donkey in a vat of conc sulphuric acid must be like (don't ask) Yes, the let-downs that zip. Its just not trustworthy. I myself have many times spent an age massaging the zip, imverting to test, massaging it closed a bit more, invert .. SPLOOOSH. How can a waterbottle have trust issues? Buy one, not acquire the nack and then see.

I have used various platypus bags over the last 5 years and they last well, only punctured one by putting boiling water in it to clean it, (wont be making that mistake again)If they are kept clean and stored in a freezer i've found that you dont get any plastic taste with them and no mold build up. great bags for storing all the water you'll need on a day out. only one niggle, I think they could be cheaper.
