I bought this because as soon as the clocks change, I usually give up running mid week. However, a cunning plan emerged - simply stick enough light on your head so that you can see through misty rain on the moors at night and keep fell running. Brilliant. I usually run with the torch on optimum (the middle of 3 settings) which is generally perfect. If the weather or terrain is particularly difficult, or I simply want a bit of a giggle at how bright the torch is (again), I turn it up to max and smile.
This does exactly what you want a fell running or night orienteering torch to do - illuminate a good area of your vision from your feet to middle/long distance, and allow you to run without having to twist and turn your head at all. I have yet to use mine with the battery in a pack as I haven't got my remote lead yet, so I've done all my running with the torch and battery on my head - no problems. I usually run for a minimum of an hour, and have had it on my head with and without a hat.
The quality is great and it is very well designed - even basic, easily overlooked parts like the clip to keep the charger attached to the battery are good and sturdy. Overall, a well built and flexible product (can be used with helmet clips for cycling although I've not yet managed to try this).
The price is big. Luckily I didn't pay even close to full price - but if you compare the light to other similar products by Silva or Lupine, it is very good value. Just don't buy one for walking the dog unless you have money to burn!
