I've navigated my way through the pitch black of the Lake District in Winter, guided by nothing more than my Petzl Tikka XP and it hasn't let me down.
Battery life and beam intensity are good. I also like the ability to have different beam settings.
If it wasn't for the fiddly battery compartment it would score higher on build quality.
It's also worth investing in a spare lens pack. This includes a white, red and green lens for a couple of quid although, for that price, I don't know why Petzl don't include it as standard.
Many find the red lens ideal for night navigation, but just be aware that you won't be able to see any red markings on your map (such as contour lines on an OS Explorer).
