I have been using this mat for over a year now and it has transformed my wildcamping experience. I was never able to sleep through the night on my Thermarest because it simply did not provide enough cushioning; I was constantly waking up with a numb hip, shoulder, arm or leg. I now sleep through the night every time and I'm using a lighter sleeping bag than before.
I have the pumpsack version of the mat, which is a bit more hassle to inflate than the model in the Trail review, but still very easy, once you get the knack of it.
I really can't understand the closing comments in the Trail review; "others are a little more comfortable" - yes, the Jack Wolfskin mat that weighs a colossal 2.7kg - or "smaller and lighter" - yes, and a heck of a lot less comfortable. The Ajungilak is the only comparable mat in my view and it not only weighs 200g more but the pack size is larger than the Exped.
The Exped packs down to a similar size to my old Thermarest. Yes, it is heavier but, combined with a 495g down bag, my sleep system for temperatures down to c5C is 1.4kg. Many synthetic bags weigh more than this, never mind the weight of a mat. The Exped is eminently suitable for backpacking and I haven't seen anything to touch it in terms of comfort, weight and pack size, with the exception of the POE Ether 6, which has only recently emerged.
