Description

In the western Highlands, close to Oban, lies one of Scotland’s most delectable mountain groups – the Ben Cruachan Massif. These two Munros are the marginally less dramatic outliers to the main Cruachan horseshoe. Their lofty curving ridges give spacious views across to the pointed peak of Ben Cruachan and the rest of the central western Highlands. Beinn a’ Chocuill, whose meaning is possibly derived from the Gaelic for a ‘shell’, compliments Beinn Eunaich, whose slopes were rich in wildfowl, hence it became known as the ‘fowling hill’. Culinary delights aside, a traverse of these two hills is a veritable menu of visual satisfaction that will certainly satisfy most palates. So get your axe out and tuck into this sumptuous hill feast.
