The Yorkshire Three Peaks

When you think of the Yorkshire Dales, odds on – if you have the slightest interest in walking – you think of the ‘Three Peaks’ not as the three individual mountains but the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’, the hell-for-leather walk that bags the three highest hills in Yorkshire in one day. If that’s the case, try and shake the individual peaks out of their mental set and consider them singly or in pairs. It’s a much better way of climbing these doughty little mountains. If on the other hand you are one of those people who have done the ‘challenge’ then here’s a chance to savour them free of the distorting lenses of muscle strain, a good dousing of mud and the a hyper-awarerness of the clock ticking.

To truly get under the skin of these peaks you have to have time: time to walk and look, time to sit and look, and time to feel and embrace their unique sentinel-like profiles and fascinating landscape.
