Phoebe from Trail.

I was out on Cadair Idris on Saturday the 24th March enjoying the beautiful weather. A friend of mine was walking the Glyders. We both having a rest stop, and talking to each other on our mobiles about our adventures that day, when she said " It's that woman from Trail magazine, the one with blond hair, she is walking towards me ! " I asked her " Is it Phoebe " " yeah that's her " They had a chat with each other , then my friend handed the phone to Phoebe and we had a short conversation, until signal loss. Phoebe came over as, pleasant and enthusiastic and happy to chat to fellow hikers.

I look forward to your next feature in Trail.

Cant help thinking that........people go walking in the countryside only to sit & chat on the phone.

Maybe its just me but the mind boggles!

I sympathise.

Slightly off topic but, update your Twitter and your face book by all means, if you really have to, but please no voice calls, it's the epitomy of rudeness imo, especially on a summit.

Go find a place you're not forcing your banality on others if you must partake.

Btw, scathing replies welcome from new members as well as old.

A similiar thing happened to me recently, I was walking on the lower slopes of Skiddaw when my mate called and said he was waiting in a bottleneck on Jakes Rake when non other than R&B 'Supastar' Rihanna came "storming up behind" anyway, it turns out that she too was ever the lady and was happy to chat about her forthcoming movie 'Battleship'....which was in stark contrast to Lady GaGa, who, when handed my mates phone on Crib Goch last year, blanked him and got one of her minders to snap his map-holder necklace string and 'duff' him up! She was, I have to add, completely out of her depth and was crying by the time she had 'crawled' to Crib Y Ddysgl! (so my mate says)

Can't ever seem to get a signal on my phone when I start going up hills. Still I have no friends anyway, so not really an issue.

I'm not sure what you'd make of this lot then...

I met a couple who were into the "Summits on the air" thing up on top of Blake Fell a few weeks ago. I'd not heard of it before but they had a portable radio mast (about 10ft high) up by the cairn and were sitting there trying to contact fellow enthusiasts.

To each their own, I guess.

To be honest this call was taken away from the summit , there was no one else about. When I did reach the top, there was a large walking group, around 20 people having noisy chats about the contents of there sandwiches,Britain's  Got Talent and some murder on Eastenders.  So not exactly shattering peoples peaceful reflection then. Some hill walkers are so elitist !!

It was lovely to speak to you on Saturday Parcarc and your friend too - veryimpressed cause she was doing the Oggie 8! It was such gorgeous weather I couldn't resist heading up onto the Glyders after a long drive up that morning - especially having been couped up in the car on the A55 for hours. What a fantastic day to be out, just wish I was still up there now...

Always happy to talk to any fellow walkers I meet on the hills - on the phone or otherwise!

Keep enjoying the mag and the mountians!
