Welsh 3 peaks

Hey all, I'm doing the Welsh 3 peaks with the British Heart Foundation in July. It's Snowdon, Cadair Idris, and then Pen y Fan. I've only done Snowdon and never even been to the other two. Anyone here doing this challenge? or know anything about the other two peaks in terms of difficulty?

I've not heard of this challenge before. I'd say you're doing the hardest mountain first and the easiest last.

Pen y Fan is mostly just an uphill walk on a made up path.  It's only at the peak that it becomes anything near a scramble.  Lovely scenery but not really a challange and it can be very crowded.

Like Snowdon then unless you come along Crib Goch.

Quite possibly, I've only been to Snowdon once and that was 25 years ago so my memory is a little hazy, that's why I didn't comment on this part of the challenge. I do know that my youngest son was only six years old when we went up the Miner's path and down the Pig Track (or was it the other way around}, so it can't have been too strenuous.

There is nothing scrambly about Pen y Fan it is an easy walk right to the top whichever way you do it

w3p is great fun.  Snowdon first (probs via Llanberis path) is simple stuff and breaks in the legs nicely and probably down via PYG to be picked up at Pen Y Pass.

Cader I personally find brutal because of the tall steps at the beginning/end.

Pen y fan will be from the National Trust toilets end of things which is by far the easiest way up, they are treating for some fungal blight in the larch trees so if they're still doing the treatment you may go up past the other side of the storey arms (by the phonebox) if so then I would say that's harder than Snowdon especially if once you get to the top of the first hill (Y gryn) you drop down into the dip before starting to climb Pen y Fan again.

Dwi'n dysgu Cymraeg. But as the great bard said "Duw it's hard"
