inside a mountain instead of on top.

usually i spend my spare time ascending a mountain or two in snowdonia. today, for a change, i went inside one. istead of a round trip of about 80 miles from north west anglesey to say ogwen and back, today it was a round trip of 9 nine miles.

i went inside mynydd parys, down into the old copper mine works. went down about 30 fathoms via the old shafts. it was really interesting seing old workings that date back 4,000 b.c. and then the massive workings of the copper mines 200 hundred years ago.

a great experience, history on my doorstep.....and i saved on diesel money !!!

mynydd parys is situated in the north west corner of anglesey near amlwch. go to www.parysmountain.co.uk to see more. tent pegs....no i wouldn't fancy spending the night there, some members of the club have done a sponsoerd 24 hr sit in a few months ago. my sympathies go to the poor miners trapped underground. 4 hours was enough for me. however i've joined the parys mountain club and intend to go underground again.

Twrhdaear, If you get to spend a night try it. It's fun and might not be like you suspect it might be.

In fact reading this got me feeling a little nostalgic. We have a pothole/cave here which you can go in unaccompanied and after an hour's linear walk with stalagtites and mites you reach a huge final cavern with two waterfalls in. You can  do a really weird 'wild' camp in the final cavern (with self supporting tents).

I was pretty apprehensive  at first but with friends and a good few candles and torches it was an unexpectedly exhillerating experiece and  something I'd love to do again, (maybe this year now I've thought about it again).

Just like a night in the secret cave in Langstrathdale except no chimney?
