 Ok I think it's about time to kick this off.

Who fancies a trip to North Wales one weekend  in mid March, We held a mini meet their last summer which was very well attended (the video evidence can be viewed on another thread) and the lovely Hightops keeps pestering me to organize another.

I suggest the weekend 19/20/21 March as its in between the Scottish winter trip and the Rocktarts Arren trip but I'm very flexible and open to suggestions.

As for routes its up to you but Tryfan-Bristly Ridge and Gribin Ridge & the Snowdon Horseshoe are always favorites. 

Accommodation could be campsite, YHA or maybe if we book early enough a bunkhouse, theres a few in  Betws y Coyed where there's plenty of pubs etc.

If your interested feel free to make suggestions on all aspects and I'll try and put it together.

 I've just been reading up on the Bochlywd Horshoe, and it mentions in winter that besides, ice axe, crampons it advises a helmet.  I know we are on the cusp of it not being a snowy climb, but what do you advise?  I can get the axe.  I have kahtoolas which I am guessing will be ok given the depleting snowline.  and my B1's are getting excited about a day in the hills.

im up thursday but think after 5 hours on public transport ill just have a little lowland walk around the area, the waterfalls or such like.

Anybody know it the conditions on Moel Siabod would require crampons.

Siabod is almost completely clear of snow - ground is great to walk on as its been so cold and dry lately.

Could all change though.......

I'm guessing that you won't need your kahtoolas at all - but if by some quirk the North Ridge of Tryfan and Bristly Ridge are in 'proper' winter nick (at the moment Tyfan is looking like a cold 'summer' scramble with the odd patch of snow) I would really suggest 'proper' crampons; they would be an enormous advantage.

 Thanks Andy, I'll probably scrounge some crampons from my friends just in case.  Better prepared than not.

I'm up for an ascent of Moel Siabod on the Sunday, that would let me get home at a semi reasonable time too. Anything that allows me to hit the road by 5pm is good!

OK,after my little venture up snowdon today,unless we have a miracle thaw anything above 800m is crampons and ice axe. You can get by with a struggle but you won't enjoy it. Watched too many people panick and struggle today. The zig zags are none exsistant...infact you walk straight across the top of them for a short cut

It'll be the pub where you see people spilling out on to the street Ian! LOL.

Really looking forward to seeing everyone...not long now!....

Don't know what pubs there are in Betws but I'm thinking a good start point could be the bar of the hotel your staying at Ian!!!! (Glan Arber) It looked a good size, there is a bar at the vagabond but is very small.

I will be up on Thursday and am happy to venture out on a recke mission (someone has to I suppose) Will post if anything better turns up.

How much car parking is there in Betws and at the Vagabond?

Bit worried about having to park halfway across town if I arrive late on Friday.

Answered my own question using Google Streetview! The answer is very limited car parking there unless the garage next door lets you borrow their car lift!

Might be able to park at the roadside but looks a bit tight...

Nick the guys at the Vagabond assure me they are full every weekend and always manage ok with parking. There is parking in the town which isn't too far away.

Kenny I will do my best it will be tough but I will try.

Hope all the campers are still up for this it will be good to meet you all.

Hi Webb72, Nice one will be good to see you, I think thats the site people are talking about look back through the thread a few pages. 

A few of us are up for a yomp on Friday so should be back for a pint at a reasonable time, Come to the Vagabond Bunkhouse or the Glan Arber Hotel just up the road.

It'll be good to catch up with you again Dad and just to let you know we’ve been getting a few bar hours under our belts in preparation. We wouldn't want to disappoint now would we....LOL
 

I'm hoping to be pitching my tent mid-day'ish Friday and then I might do a short leg stretcher in the afternoon to build up a thirst. Half a mile should be enough….LOL

For those of you thinking of Parsley Fern Gully it is currently (Tuesday morning) there; complete; and looking nicely white.  Left Hand finish looks a bit 'rockier' than it has for a while but the main line looks good.

Nothing is thawing too quickly up there so you might be lucky......

I'll be bringing my gear in the hope of a wee route. Aren't you jetting off to warmer climes this week? Was kinda hoping for a conditions report later in the week......
