The Dartmoor experience
Dates - Friday 12th June, evening meet and greet - I’m suggesting we meet on the campsite, bring something to eat, drink and sit on, I’ll take 3 small disposable barbeques hopefully the weather will be good.
On arrival at the campsite, look for a red cycle lamp to find us.


Saturday 13th main walk 9:00 start at campsite

Sunday - to be decided within the group.

BTW the pub in the centre of Widecombe does pretty good grub, the Rugglestone a little bit outside is a real ale place worth a visit (both imho).

I don't want to be the Worlds best climber, just the oldest.

Shame you can’t make it Ang.

And thanks for that Wurz.

I am going to suggest that the initial Friday meet will be on the campsite with a few beers and a BBQ, then head for the pub for the Saturday night, I had to wait to suggest this because of the weather (looking good) if anyone has any feedback, get posting.
Neither of the pubs are that close, but warren house is a must.
 

Anyone else from Essex ?

Hi all..............I won't be camping friday, but will turn up at about 8:00/8:30 saturday morning.

Whatever walk(s) get planned for the day, PLEASE don't leave without me. If I'm not there by 9:00 consider me out of it. I will be camping the saturday night only.

Being no.1 carer for 2 months has left me in need of respite. Can't wait!

Hi what time are you looking at walking on Sat and any ideas where anyone wants to go yet?  I can get out for a few hours, need to drop the ayatollah to work and then my daughter to stables so could get somewhere in your vicinity for 0930/45 ish.  Probably get daughter for about 5.  Weather is fantastic at the moment, gonna be hot again tomorrow, changeable for the weekend.

I’m going to try get to the site about 14:00 Friday and will leave Monday morning (that’s the plan)

I’ll have a small green tent and a small white Vauxhall combo van

I just went out on my bike around Ringmoor for a pair of hours. The moor is very dry, even places that are normally quite wet were dry and given the forecast I don't envisage you having any major problems underfoot. (Not so dry that steams and mires are dry though).

I don't want to be the Worlds best climber, just the oldest.

Wow!!!  What a lovely day..................great company, and seamless integration into Trail folklore are SmallG.Wellies and Bazzer......really nice to meet you and hope to see you again.

A debt of thanks to Bazz for leading us round as the fine "local expert".......interest all the way...clapper bridge, high moors, waterfall,stone circle, pub, forest to finish.Brilliant.

Thanks to Col. Mustard for organising and "getting off the ground" a meet which has been shunned by most . Simply because it hasn't any mountains, too far south for you? Well you are missing out my friends. Stunning scenery and interesting folklore. OH! almost forgot. The moors have sheep which fight you for the use of the road. I mean, they lay in the middle of it and dare you to run them over. This also applies to the cattle and Darmoor ponies (cute!). Care needed

I felt much happier going knowing we had the benefit of Wurz's invaluable local knowledge, thanks.

Unfortunately I had to miss the final day, but I hope all have a gud un, and return home safe.

Yeah I agree. I really enjoyed meeting you all and I am glad you all enjoyed the walk I planned. You never know what the result is going to be like but it seemed to work well. Having not been on the moor for a while it was great to be out again with such wonderul company. I shall endeavour to make the South Wales meet in August and it would be great to meet you all again plus some new peeps as well. I will post some photos when I get the chance.

I would just like to say what a great weekend I have had, and in great weather too. Thanks to Martin for sorting out the camp site and getting this meet off the ground. A huge thank you to everyone for making me so welcome, I had a fantastic time.

Big thanks to Bazza for choosing a great walk and showing everyone a little of the region that first started me walking as a teenager. Well done Colonel Mustard (Sir!) for an excellent campsite and wonderfully clear planning and instructions.

It looks like everything has been said - so I will say it again! Thanks to CM for the organisation; it all went very smoothly. To Bazza for the walk on Saturday; superb scenery and it definately wasn't flat! To IanD for navigating on the Sunday; great walk with a bit of scrambling thrown in (though I wasn't in the same league as you and gijane!).

Good to see that the newcomers bazza and smallgreenwellies enjoyed the meet and look forward to seeing them, and the regulars, on another meet.

Hi, The Dartmoor meet went well, great people and great weather and with thanks to Barry for showing us the moors, he gave us a good walk and showed us what makes Dartmoor a special place.
Thanks to Ian for coming up with the Sunday walk, well done another great day!
And lastly thanks to the Dartmoor pony for giving birth to a beautiful foal in front of us making the journey to the pub a bit different !
