Campsite near The Roaches, recommendations please

Can anyone recommend me a campsite (not wild camp) near The Roaches? I am driving so it doesn’t have to be super close. Internet & LFTO searched have not returned anything. I am travelling from the south, so I will be on the A53 to Leek.

Thanks muchly in advance.

Hiya.

I dont know the area hugely well, but you could try around Leek itself, mebes via their tourist info: http://www.dms-visitpeakdistrict.com/thedms.asp?dms=13&venue=6022456 otherwise you're probably looking at somewhere nearer Buxton 2bh.

Also, im guessing you're looking at doing some climbing there, if so check out the BMC website to see if there are still any restrictions in place-i dont think there are, but for most of the summer a chunk has been off limits owing to nesting Peregrine Falcons.

HTH.

I've seen people camping in a field below Hen Cloud. The Roaches Tea Rooms website gives the following contact details for booking a pitch at this site: Contact Reg Day on 01538 300419 Reg Day Homestead Farm, Upper Hulme, Leek, Staffordshire, ST13 8TY. There are no facilities on-site, toilets and water at the farmhouse about 1/4 mile further down the road towards Upper Hulme. You can also book online via this link: http://www.roachestearooms.co.uk/camping.html

Thanks! Yeah they're both post-processed. I altered the hues on the Helm Crag shot to add more mood, the original image is very overcast / grey. The shot of Hay Stacks was taken during descent via Scarth Gap.

Thanks guys, I know there is nothing for miles in that area so local knowledge is usualy best. The tea rooms look just right.

Hikerpunk I'm not a climber, was just intending on walking along the top - I don't think that is restricted.

No problem, its not bad over there, quite handy for a bimble around, although we mainly go there for the climbing as its about 15 mins drive from campus. As far as im aware there are no restrictions on place for walking, unless there are any temporary ones for grouse shooting or anything like that.

Ah, thought you were studying up in Sunderland/Teeside for some reason... :)

Handy location you're at anyway for the Peaks. I fancy a bit of a 'bimble' around Kinder now you mention it. Busy this weekend though. Might have joined you. :)
