GENERAL FORUM

Best way up snowdon

 Hello,

I am a keen walker but the most adventurous I have been so far is the Peak District Mam Tor route. My boyfriend and I would like to tackle snowdon, so what path is best? We fancy a challenge and are both pretty fit and sporty young people.

GENERAL FORUM

Does the horse poo fairy exist?

As I've documented elsewhere,  we are currently walking the Ridgeway.

At its worst, it's a sort of open sewer for horses. This leads to the question,"if dogs owners are now expected to use doggy bags, why not horse owners?".  That would possibly lead to the unedifying sight of irresponsible horse owners leaving bin liners full of manure hanging in trees awaiting the arrival of the horse poo fairy. But then again, maybe the horse poo fairy does exist in the form of rose growers who would welcome this valuable resources.

GENERAL FORUM

A plea for Northern Hospitality

We have done most of our walking in the northern part of England, Wales and Scotland. When we use accommodation we are used to a friendly welcome, and warm and willing service. A few years ago we walked the Cotswold Way, and felt generally unwelcome. I felt that as we arrived on shank's pony rather than a BMW 320i tourer (or whatever), we were generally considered not to be the done thing. We're currently giving the south another go with the RidgeWay, and the same thing is happening again. It feels like everywhere we stay people are running these nice ...

Walking the Ridgeway

Day 1

And we're off. Day 1 of our 13th long distance path. Its's only the second we've done in the south of England, after the Cotswold Way, which was our least favourite.

We stayed in Avebury overnight, so had the joy of walking through the Stone Circle and down the avenue to reach the start proper. It was a very soft day, with low cloud and haze which sort of suited the softness of the landscape.  The walking was very easy, clear tracks along the top of the ridge, looking down across the undulating countryside.

The highlight ...
