Llanberis Mountain Film Festival

After a four-year absence, the Llanberis Mountain Film Festival is returning to the outdoor calendar. It's back from 6th to 8th March 2015 with three days of movies, skills workshops, family activities and talks from world-class athletes such as Neil Gresham and Calum Muskett. LLAMFF uses its profits to support the Mountain Rescue teams of Snowdonia, as well as promoting a...

Useful app for obtaining OS grid reference

I don't know if everyone else knows this (I suspect so as i'm so behind with technology!) but I just found out there is a free android app you can download called "GPS test" which you can set to give you an OS grid reference. Might come in handy one day for anyone who hasn't gone down the GPS route. I'm going to get a GPS device but I downloaded it anyway. It's got a compass aswell.

GPS confusion!

I don't really understand all this technical stuff

I don't have a GPS receiver yet but i've been looking into them. What I would like to know is can I download a route I took (not a planned route, just a recorded one) onto MemoryMap software on a PC to view this route and gain the data (total distance, elevation etc) with ANY device, or do I have to have a MemoryMap GPS to do this? And to record this route on the GPS, does it ned to have mapping software on it, or can the ...

Garmin 62s

Happy New Year to you all! I was in Devon over Christmas and bought a new Garmin 62s from Millets, mainly because it was £100 off the price. Super. It works fine and I think I understand most of the 53 pages of instructions. However, I cannot understand how I am supposed to get my readings, tracks and routes from the device and on to my computer and where does it go on my computer  — on to Google Earth? There's a section in the instructions about 'Transferring Files to your Computer' but it only describes finding something on my ...

Skiddaw on Sunday 18th - lots of snow and very cold

took a trip up skiddaw on Sunday with my mate, thank god for GPS! from about 400 meters and up the visibility got worse (average of 10 meter visabilty probably)  and the snow was falling quite heavily, added with 30mph it was rather exciting to say the least! minus 10 degree in temperature but luckily we were wrapped up and had extra clothing in our bags! I have only done 1 walk in the snow before this, and this was my first walk with very low visibility!

Rab Vapour Rise Guide trouser replacement

 Hi everyone.

I went up Snowdon today in my VR pants and had a couple of issues, namely lack of wind resistance and too constricting for big steps, are there any other trousers I should look at, that would avoid those problems? Montane Terra Thermostretch? Cheers in advance

Cheers

Waterproofing for leather boots

I have a pair of Meindel leather walking boots and have used Nikwax Waterproofing Wax for Leather on them since new although last summer I didn't clean or treat them for several weeks as they never got dirty.  The are now begiinning to leak through the leather, I think, and my toes sometimes get damp.  I was thinking of using Grangers wax treatment instead of the Nikwax but is this the best option or should I be doing something else entirely?
