Which is the best 4-season hiking jacket?
By GrahamThompson
Do you mean a jacket that you can wear at any time of year including in snowy conditions? If that is the case then in theory you could choose any waterproof jacket. You’d just need to wear more insulation underneath in colder weather. That said, some waterproofs are a little better suited to winter than others. For example if it’s cold and windy a stiffer jacket may be better because the warm air will remain trapped around your body rather than being forced out by the wind. Also in cold weather it is better to have a longer jacket that can keep your lower back and bum warm, while two large front pockets will keep your hands cosy. Given the above I would suggest you look at the Mountain Equipment Kongur, which took first place in Trail’s November 2007 review of winter jackets (only available in a men’s fit).Another option is to wear a jacket with a little extra insulation of its own, and Páramo tops fit the bill. The Páramo Aspira for example is an excellent winter jacket that is a bit warmer than other designs and also longer, and it’s therefore perfect for winter. At a lower price there is the Keela Spectrum, which uses a system that again adds a little extra warmth as it is made from multiple layers of fabric, which also improve condensation control.

I''m looking for a decent flask. I've tried several but they're not keeping warm for long even after pre-warming. I'm going om MT winter skills course in 5 weeks so need to get something good for then.
