I would ask if you can try the socks on. Socks are all different shapes, and feet are even more varied in size and shape. So one pair of socks is not necessarily going to fit you as well as another pair of socks. Some people have fewer problems with this than others, as it depends on the foot shape you have. Some shops have a variety of socks available for use when trying on boots, so you could try those on to find one that fits, then buy some. In short it is just like buying boots in that you ideally need to try them on before you buy if you want a great fit. Socks do vary in fit almost as much as boots, in my experience, unless you are lucky and have feet that are average in every way.

Re: Whats the best way to get the correct SOCK for...
Depends on the boots, terrain and climate. For lightweight footwear I use Patagonia trekking socks, merino wool so don't stink up For walking/mountain boots, normally protection 4 Thorlos socks, but in winter I like Patagonia Merino Mountaineering socks or Bridgedale Summit socks Also trying some of the new Bridgedale light hiker socks that are foot specific, nice and comfy. I would stay away from the X Socks, nothing but trouble and the always shrink in my experience.

I tend to use 2 types of socks, Smartwool and Bridgedale. I use Smartwool for Spring, Summer and Autumn, and Bridgedale for late Autumn, Winter and early Spring although both types of sock do do socks for different times of the year. But not to sound sarcastic, If in doubt ask a sales assistant best to goto Cotswolds they're there to help rather than sell...Hope this advice has helped?
