I'm new to hiking/walking and at present just wear jeans. I am buying proper walking trousers soon but are there any special types of underwear that's more comfortable to wear when walking? Or tips on how can I stop my underwear chafing? By the way I am male.

All cotton garments soak up sweat or rain and hold it close to the skin, which draws away body heat and makes you feel cold and clammy. So while it is well known that cotton jeans and cotton t-shirts are not ideal outdoor clothing, it is often forgotten that your finest cotton knickers are not ideal either. Many outdoor companies produce undies for men and women, made from wicking synthetic fabrics which transport sweat away from the skin to prevent chafing as well as the cold clamminess. Brands to consider include Lowe Alpine, Helly Hansen and Patagonia, but there are also many more out there and most outdoor stores stock them. www.lowealpine.comwww.hellyhansen.comwww.patagonia.com

My view is that technical underwear is a must. I use Falke mens boxer and when out on longer days I use Boduglide which is one of those wonder products that stops chaffing on feet pits bits etc.

I have worn all sorts from long leg Adidas climalite running tites under my softshell trousers in winter (very good) and Patagonia Capilene underwear rest of the year - excellent. The Paramo Cambia stff is also supposed to be superb, but I have also worn some tech breifs from Next before now, £11 for three pairs, and they worked ok for me!

I''m looking for a decent flask. I've tried several but they're not keeping warm for long even after pre-warming. I'm going om MT winter skills course in 5 weeks so need to get something good for then.
