Scree slopes strike me as an easy way to descend – how safe are they?

You’re right: scree slopes can provide a fast descent route; but, because they’re unpredictable, they carry a high risk factor should you make a mistake. Unless the scree is of smallish, uniform size, avoid it. Make sure you can see the entire length of the slope and, even then, be cautious. The depth of scree will vary and, if you hit a section where there’s only a thin layer covering bedrock, you’re likely to fall. Be aware that dislodged rocks could hit walkers below and that scree can easily disguise a change in contours: for example, a cliff with scree both above and below.

I''m looking for a decent flask. I've tried several but they're not keeping warm for long even after pre-warming. I'm going om MT winter skills course in 5 weeks so need to get something good for then.
