Hi, my Mountain Equipment Changabang jacket has lost its water repellency - can any one give advice on how to get it back?
By Country Walking magazine
We contacted the folk at Mountain Equipment:"Changabang is straightforward. We would recommend washing at 30 degrees, to save energy if nothing else, using pure soap flakes or appropriate technical wash from Nikwax or Grangers. The jacket should be rinsed extremely thoroughly before being dried. The garment can be cool tumble dried afterwards. Take care for zip pullers etc not to catch during washing."It should not need additional re-proofing unless thoroughly worn, when this is necessary we would recommend the use of a surface treatment only and not a wash in."

Hi, I use a great waterproofing product called 3x3 Protector Spray by a company called Woly. It's really good at waterproofing but it also protects and conditions the fabric making it look new again! I'd really recommend it as it was cheap and works not only for jackets but for shoes, rucksacks, trousers etc. I bought it from www.shoestringuk.co.uk

Looks like it's a Goretex XCR or Pro Shell. Best advice would be to look into some cleaning and reproofing products. I tend to use Nikwax Spray on for my goretex stuff, but others such as Grangers work just a well. Do remember to heat it when you've added the reproofer as this activates the DWR so it beads a lot better. If you havent got a tumble dryer (like me) then using a hair dryer seems to work just as well.
