I've noticed there are a lot of dark-coloured woollen base layers for sale, but are there any thin, preferably woollen, light-coloured base layers out there which would reflect the sun better?

We asked Pete Cole, the clothing buyer/expert at Cotswold Outdoor. He advises that although light-coloured base layers do keep you cooler as they absorb less radiation from the sun, dark-coloured clothing gives better protection against UV rays which is why people in hot countries often wear dark blue or black clothing. For pale-coloured baselayers try Mountain Hardwear Super Wicked Shirt in Stainless, or the Berghaus Long Sleeved Tech Tee in Capri.

If you do use wool, as it is a natural fibre it could be bleached... You'd have to be very careful, use a branded product designed for the purpose and you'd not be able to take it back if it fell apart, but It's possible....

Hiya I know Under Armour do white baselayers. The site is http://www.underarmour.com/baselayer They are not wool, they are their own technology.

Icebreaker do some pale grey/blue tops in their 200gsm fabric. I can't remember the name of the shade, but it is available in the UK. Have a look at the Mountain Factor and Snow and Rock websites.

I''m looking for a decent flask. I've tried several but they're not keeping warm for long even after pre-warming. I'm going om MT winter skills course in 5 weeks so need to get something good for then.
