Trail contributor Ben Winston says, “In terms of ease the Cairngorms should be your first choice, if you’re comfortable in big mountains. Maybe you could walk the Lairig Ghru from north to south, as it is low-level and easy to get to by public transport. Aviemore would be good, or you could go to the Glen Affric Youth Hostel.”

From Inverness, take the Highland Country Bus number 17 (the Inverness to Tomich service) to the Cannich Hotel, which will take about 45 minutes. From Aviemore you can reach the Cairngorms via the number 34 bus Highland Country Bus, the Grantown to Cairngorm service, to Cairngorm car park.
